New Delhi:
Delhi metro train services were disrupted today during rush hours after a technical snag hit the blue line (Noida/Vaishali-Dwarka) causing delays and overcrowding at various stations.
An overhead electrical wire snapped at around 6:30 pm due to which only one track was used to commute from Noida to Dwarka and vice-versa.
Passengers experienced a harrowing time as the services were hit for nearly three hours and hundreds of commuters were stranded inside the metro stations. Rajiv Chowk metro station being the junction was the worst hit.
Due to short loop running between Janakpuri West and Rajiv Chowk station, trains were delayed by more than 20 minutes, leaving commuters stranded at stations since 6:30 pm. Normalcy was restored around 9:10 pm, a Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) official said.
This metro snag not only caused difficulties for its commuters but also caused major traffic jams in and around Connaught Place area.
People were not allowed to enter the metro station and commuters who decided to take the autos and taxis faced a hard time too. They were either over-charged or were unable to get any kind of public transportation.
"I was stuck in the metro for more than 40 minutes. When finally I decided to take an auto, the autowala charged me more than double. There were absolutely no buses which weren't overcrowded. It took me more than three hours to reach home when it takes me only an hour", said one of the commuters.
