Online Admissions To End Corruption And Give Multiple Options: Manish Sisodia

New Delhi: The process of online admissions to entry level classes for Economically Weaker Sections (EWS) and Disadvantaged Groups (DG), beginning January 1, will end corruption and give multiple options for admissions to parents of wards, Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia said today.

The online registration for admissions to 27,000 seats in entry level classes at 1,150 private schools will begin from January 1, Mr Sisodia said in a press conference.

While the last date for submitting the application is January 22, the first list will be out on February 15 followed by another list on February 29.

"The online process for filling 25 per cent seats under EWS and DG categories will check complaints of irregularities and demands of money from parents. It will also enable parents to apply for 1-20 schools thus giving them greater options for admission of their children," the Deputy Chief Minister said.

The schools run by minority institutions and those running on provisional certificates will not come under the ambit of the online process.

Till now, the government has just been issuing a common form and monitoring the draw-of-lots. The rest of the process used to be managed by schools. In an online system, however, candidates will be allotted seats and the admission process will be centralised.

"The computerised lottery under the online process will not only put an end to complaints against irregularities in manual draw of lots, it will give equal chance to each applicant as per given rules," he said.

Delhi government's Directorate of Education (DoE) notified the schedule for admission to entry level classes in private schools under the two categories on December 29.

Mr Sisodia also expressed happiness over Delhi being the host of the 61st National School Games scheduled to begin from January 2.

"We are happy that Delhi is hosting the National School Games from January 2 to January 9. It will encourage the students to do better in sports," he said.

Nearly 15,000 students from across the country will participate under 22 disciplines of games and sports in the 61st National School Games, said a senior government official.

The opening ceremony of the sporting event will be held at Chhatrasal stadium on January 2. Last year, the students of Delhi had won 334 gold medals and and 175 silver medals in National School Games, said the official.

"As a host, we are paying special emphasis on providing best facilities for boarding and lodging to players and officials. For this purpose, 41 schools and sports complexes of Directorate of Education have been earmarked," added the official.
