Padmaavat row: There were children inside the school bus when stones were thrown at it
A school bus carrying students was attacked by protesters in Gurgaon, adjacent to national capital Delhi, as protests turned violent in several states a day before the release of "
Padmaavat." The attackers threw stones at the school bus, smashing its windows. Nobody was injured but a video showed terrified students ducking and cowering in fearing fear. There are prohibitory orders in Gurgaon banning large gatherings.
Protesters, allegedly activists of the Karni Sena, a Rajput group which is spearheading the protests, also set on fire a Haryana Roadways bus and blocked roads.
The administration has banned protests within a 200-metre radius of movie halls till Sunday, and the police said people armed with weapons or other objects "capable of causing injury" would not be allowed near movie theaters, but many of Gurgaon's 40 cinema halls have said they will not screen the film.
A senior police officer, Vinay Pratap Singh, has denied that the administration has ordered pubs and bars shut tomorrow . "We have already imposed (prohibitory orders under) Section 144 of the CrPC in the city but not directed pubs and bars to shut. All pubs and bars will remain open. The police are undertaking adequate patrolling," he was quoted as saying by news agency Press Trust of India.
Hundreds of Karni Sena supporters and others opposed to the film also staged protests near the Khidki-Daula toll plaza on the Delhi-Jaipur national highway. The police said the agitation ended after the protesters were removed from the scene.
The hooliganism went on despite assertions by the Haryana police that nobody would be allowed to disrupt peace in the state.
