Sheila Dikshit said her party is ready for election in case the need arises
Former Delhi chief minister Sheila Dikshit has said that she is pained by what happened in the state Assembly yesterday.
"There have been walkouts before in the Assembly, but nothing was uncivilised as yesterday. Watching the Delhi Assembly proceedings was painful yesterday," she told NDTV.

Arvind Kejriwal's resignation, Ms Dikshit said, "I can understand his commitment to what he believes in has been very good, but you must remember that it can only be done through a constitutional process. It can't be done otherwise."
Mr Kejriwal handed over his resignation to Delhi's Lieutenant Governor Najeeb Jung yesterday along with the recommendation for dissolution of the assembly and holding of fresh elections after his pet anti-graft Jan Lokpal Bill was blocked by the Congress and the BJP in the state legislature. (

Today, Mr Jung rejected that recommendation and decided to keep the House in suspended animation. Speaking to NDTV, Mr Kejriwal said the Lt Governor's decision is wrong. "I don't know why the Lt Governor is openly flouting the Constitution," Mr Kejriwal said. (

But Ms Dikshit countered Mr Kejriwal and said Mr Jung is following norms. "Running a country or a state or a Union Territory has to be done by certain norms. And the Lieutenant Governor is following those norms. The President of India will take a call after the Lt Governor sends him a report," she said.
"Mr Kejriwal is trying to questions everybody's intentions except his own," Ms Dikshit added.
The former chief minister also said that her party is ready for election in case the need arises. "Congress is an old party. We contest an election whenever it arrives, there is no question of shying away from it," she said.
