New Delhi: The three Delhi municipal corporations are collecting the parking fee service tax from customers with Re.1 levy on existing parking rates, said an official.
Owners of four wheelers were paying Rs.10 and two-wheeler riders Rs.7 as parking rate. With service tax imposed on Thursday, car owners are shelling out Rs.11 while the two-wheeler owners have to pay Rs.8 an hour.
"As per the decision of the central government, we have decided to collect it from customers," south Delhi standing committee chairman Rajesh Gehlot told IANS yesterday.
"Our parking rates are not increasing. It is just an addition of Re.1 that is being made," added Gehlot.
However, the residents of Delhi are annoyed with the decision and have termed it baseless.
"It is undue pressure on the residents of Delhi. Such policies are nothing short of harassing the people," said east Delhi Resident Welfare Association representative VS Vohra.
