Pet dog killed with iron rods for barking at cow

Pet dog killed with iron rods for barking at cow
Delhi: Faridabad residents Shikha Thakur and her husband Narendra Sharma would have never imagined that their pet dog whom they had sent out with their servant for a walk would be killed for barking at a cow.

According to the police, Narendra's domestic help Sunny had taken their nine-month-old German Shepherd "Pepsi" for a walk on Sunday evening when the dog started barking at cow.

A few men sitting nearby felt disturbed by the barking and grabbed the dog's leash. They asked Sunny to call the owner. As Sunny went to call the owners, the four men started beating the dog with sticks and iron rod. When Narendra and Shikha reached the spot, they found their dog badly injured.

"Till the time we could arrange for medical assistance for our Pepsi, he had succumbed to the injuries. We got a post-mortem conducted which clearly said that his legs were broken and the skull had multiple fractures. The only fault of my dog was that it barked at a cow. If a dog will not bark, then who will? questioned Shikha.

The couple, who work as property dealers, then lodged a complaint against four accused who have been identified as Karam Vir, Neelu, Manu and Banwar, all residents of Palla area. Police have registered a case.

The ordeal didn't however end there for the couple. After they lodged the complaint, they started getting threats to their lives.

"On Tuesday morning,  the elder brother of one of the accused came to our house and asked us to withdraw the case. When we refused, he threatened us with dire consequences," said Shikha.

An online campaign has also been started by animal activist Naresh Kadyan to seek action
against such crime.
