New Delhi: AAP lawmaker Somnath Bharti was today brought back to the capital by Delhi Police, who took him to places around Agra and Mathura to confront people related to the ones who had allegedly sheltered him.
A senior police official said that relatives of Baney Singh -- who the police claims is a prominent AAP leader in Agra -- identified Mr Bharti and told them that the former law minister had stayed at their residence for two nights during the period in which he was evading arrest.
Meanwhile, a police team is looking for Baney and his associates identified as Nattha Singh, Kapil and Sudheer.
All of them had allegedly harboured the lawmaker while he was on the run, said Joint Commissioner of Police (Southwest) Dependra Pathak.
He added that Mr Bharti will also be confronted with his wife, Lipika Mitra, tonight and then he shall be subjected to another round of questioning.
Mr Bharti was yesterday taken to Agra a day after Supreme Court denied interim bail to the AAP MLA and his police custody extended for three days.
There, Mr Bharti was made to confront Lal Singh -- the person who had earlier registered a police complaint over criminal breach of trust against his distant relative Baney.
A senior official said that Lal Singh recognised Mr Bharti instantly and claimed that he was the 'mantri' from Delhi with whom Baney had come to his house and borrowed his car, which they did not return.
