New Delhi:
A seven-month pregnant woman was found dead at her home, police said on Saturday and added that investigations have been launched after her parents alleged she was murdered for dowry and the hospital authorities suspected foul play.
"Seetal Gupta, 21, was found unconscious at her room in Sangam Vihar area in south Delhi Friday. She was taken to Majeedia Hospital where doctors declared her dead," said a senior police officer.
Hospital authorities alerted police after they suspected some foul play.
"We found injury marks on the back of Seetal's neck. We have sent the body for post-mortem examination," said the officer.
Seetal's parents alleged that her in-laws made regular demands for dowry for the last three years after the marriage. Seetal's maternal uncle Vijay said that Seetal's neighbours informed him that his niece had committed suicide and was taken to hospital.
"We all rushed to the hospital. They have killed her for dowry," said Vijay.
However, Seetal's husband Pradeep Gupta told police that she has committed suicide and he was unaware about the reason for such step.
An inquiry by the sub-divisional magistrate has been initiated to unravel the mystery.
"We too are investigating into the case. We are waiting for post-mortem report," said the officer.
