Rains lash capital after a sultry day

New Delhi: Rains lashed the city late in the evening on Tuesday, bringing much relief to the people after a sultry day which saw mercury rising above normal levels.

Despite overnight rains, the maximum temperature in the day was recorded at 36.2 degree Celsius, one degree above normal and up from Monday's 33.9 degrees, though the minimum came down to 26.6 degrees, from 28 degree Celsius.

However, a fresh bout of showers hit the capital after 8.30 pm. The Met office has predicted more rains in the coming days.

The capital received overnight rains and the rain gauges measured 4.7 mm between 5.30 pm and 8.30 am on Tuesday while it received 0.6 mm of showers during the day on Monday.

The humidity oscillated between 58 and 91 per cent. Monsoon hit the capital on Friday evening, after missing the normal onset date of June 29. Last year, monsoon reached the city on June 26.
