Raju and his two sons have cancer, they sleep on a pavement
New Delhi: Virtually every night, for the last  three years, Raju, a labourer from Uttar Pradesh, curls up on the pavement outside a public bathroom opposite the AIIMS hospital in Delhi. Huddled next to him are his two sons, aged six and three. All three have retinoblastoma, a rare type of eye cancer.

On nights when the temperature dipped below two degrees, they slept here, unable to afford the price of admission to a state-run shelter nearby.

"I can live without treatment but my son is so young, please treat him," says Raju, who borrowed a lakh three years ago when Nitin, his elder son, was diagnosed with cancer.

The loan was taken from a money-lender. The interest is spiraling. Every few weeks, Raju returns home to borrow a little more.

Raju has lost one eye to cancer. So has Nitin. Harsh, the younger child, has been affected in one eye, which may have to be removed.  The children are going through chemotherapy. They say the doctors at AIIMS look after them very well.

And while their treatment at AIIMS costs them next to nothing, they have nothing to live on. This winter, please help this family (details for bank account listed below).

Last week, we reported on 12-year-old Chandan, also a cancer patient, who was sleeping with his father outside AIIMS. Generous donors helped raise eight lakhs for him. Now, he can recover in a small hotel room from his sessions of chemotherapy.

"Thank you," said Chandan on camera for the kindness of strangers. (Watch Chandan's story)
