Ramlila protesters clueless about their belongings

New Delhi: They had come from far and wide to support the yoga guru, Baba Ramdev, and participate in his yoga camp. Little did they know that they would have run for life deserting their plans within a day. As Ramlila Grounds saw a police crackdown late on Saturday night, the supporters had to leave the place leaving behind their belongings. A day later, they are still clueless about where they can find the missing luggage.

Gautam Kumar (27) had come all the way from Bihar on a bicycle to support the Baba. But following Saturday night's incident, he can't find either his bicycle or his belongings. "I can't find my cycle and don't have any money also because I have lost my luggage where I had kept my money. I went to the Ramlila Grounds on Monday morning to check if my things were still there but found nothing."

Police officials who have been on duty at the grounds said that all the luggage which were lying at the grounds have been returned to their respective owners. However, Rajesh Chopra, Patanjali Yog Peeth chairman for east Delhi, told MiD DAY, "The luggage belonging to the supporters were dumped at a particular place at the Ramlila Grounds, but what happened to it after that is not known as the supporters have not yet got their belongings back." He said, "When we went to Rajghat to participate in BJP's agitation against Ramdev's ouster, police officials did not let us enter the premises. They shooed us away."

"Almost 500 people are still missing. Among those who were detained, 34 have been freed from the Daryaganj police station and 14 from the Kamla Market police station," said Chopra. Moolchand, a nurse in Lok Nayak Jai Prakash Narayan Hospital said, "A supporter, Kirti Sharma(35), had come from Punjab. She was admitted at the hospital after being injured during the clashes. However, we can't find her in the hospital though doctors say she has not been discharged."
