Revoke Order On Appointment Of 15 Lawyers: Najeeb Jung To Kejriwal Government

Najeeb Jung has asked Delhi government to revoke its order immediately to appoint 15 lawyers.

New Delhi: Lt Governor Najeeb Jung has asked Delhi government to revoke its order immediately to appoint 15 lawyers while refusing to give his post-facto approval on the appointment of these advocates, setting another stage for fresh round of tussle between the Lt Governor and AAP dispensation.

Mr Jung has returned the file pertaining to the issue to Delhi Law Minister Manish Sisodia and asked him to revoke the government's order to appoint 12 Advocates-on-record and three Arguing counsels.

The Kejriwal government had appointed these lawyers without prior approval of the Lt Governor in 2014 and 2015.

Recently, government had sent the file to Lt Governor seeking his post facto approval.

"MHA had sought opinion from the Law Ministry which suggested that such appointment is only made by Central law agency. LG office had also suggested the same. LG has returned the file pertaining to appointment of 15 lawyers to the government and asked the Law Minister to revoke the order in this regard," sources said.

Meanwhile, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal alleged that Jung has also dissolved the 'Road Naming Committee' on the day the government was to name the road of Akshardham Temple after Pramukh Swami Maharaj, a famous spiritual leader.

The LG office and the AAP government had been at loggerheads on range of issues in the past including transfer and posting of officers.
