New Delhi:
The family of traffic constable Mana Ram - who was run over by a car last week after an argument with three men in it - will receive one crore rupees as compensation.
Mana Ram, 26, was killed on Saturday night. He had stopped a car driven by 26-year-old Raman Kant at a West Delhi crossing, and asked him to take a detour.
After an argument, the driver reversed his car to escape and the constable jumped on the bonnet to stop them. The accused tried to shake off Mana Ram and when he fell, ran him over. The three occupants then left the car and ran away.
Mana Ram died on the way to hospital.
The car driver, Raman Kant, was later arrested and charged with murder. Two minors who were with him have been sent to a judicial home.
Mana Ram had joined the Delhi Police's traffic department just last year. He has a wife, a two-and-a-half-year old child and a younger sister.
The Delhi Police had described him as a martyr killed in the line of duty and asked for substantial compensation for his family.
