The CBI has recovered foreign currency worth over Rs 3 lakh from the residence of a senior Delhi bureaucrat,
Rajender Kumar in a raid this morning, sources in the agency said. This is in addition to cash worth Rs 2.4 lakh that the agency found during the search.
Mr Kumar, Principal Secretary to Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal who set off a political firestorm by alleging that the CBI raided his office, is accused of corruption in the purchase of computers and favouring a company in the tender process.
Sources in the CBI said that documents related to three immovable properties were also recovered from Mr Kumar's home in New Friends Colony in south Delhi. The bureaucrat, sources say, was not cooperating with the probe agency in accessing his email accounts.
The raid was part of searches conducted by the CBI today at 14 locations across Delhi and Uttar Pradesh.
The CBI also recovered Rs 10.5 lakh from GK Nanda, a co-accused along with Mr Kumar in the corruption case, sources said. Mr Nanda is the General Manager of Telecommunications Consultants India Ltd (TCIL).
In a series of tweets earlier today, Mr Kejriwal said that his office was raided by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and launched a fierce attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi, calling him a '
coward and psychopath'. The CBI claims it was searching Rajender Kumar's office at the Delhi Secretariat and not that of the Chief Minister. But Mr Kejriwal alleged that the CBI raid was an excuse to search his office.
