Sharad Chauhan Gets Bail In AAP Worker Suicide Case

Aam Aadmi Party legislator Sharad Chauhan was granted bail on Thursday.

New Delhi: A court in Delhi on Thursday granted bail to Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) legislator Sharad Chauhan, who was arrested along with others in connection with the suicide of a woman party worker Soni.

Additional Sessions Judge Gautam Manan granted bail to Mr Chauhan, asking him to furnish a personal bond and surety bond of Rs 30,000.

Besides the legislator, the other accused are suspended Delhi Police Assistant Sub-Inspector Mukhtiyar Singh, Sonu alias Virendra Mann, Mohan Lal Verma, Sanjay Kumar, Amit Kumar, Rajnikanth alias Rajni and Ramesh Bhardwaj.

All, except Mr Bhardwaj, were arrested on July 31.

Soni committed suicide on July 19 after being allegedly harassed by Mr Bhardwaj. The woman, a mother of two daughters, had left behind a self-shot WhatsApp video in which she claimed "I was denied justice".

According to police, in her video clip,the woman accused Mr Bhardwaj, Amit Kumar and Rajnikanth of torturing her to withdraw a sexual harassment complaint she filed against Mr Bhardwaj on June 2.

In her police complaint, Soni had alleged that Mr Bhardwaj harassed her continuously and asked for sexual favours. She even raised the matter within the party but no action was taken, the complaint said.
