Six children rescued, owner of domestic help agency arrested in New Delhi

New Delhi: Six children, including four girls, have been rescued from a placement agency for domestic helps in Shakurpur area in New Delhi and the owner and her accomplice have been arrested.

The children were rescued following a raid by a Special Investigation Team of Crime Branch along with the representatives of an NGO, Shakti Vahini.

Working on specific information, a team led by ACP Satpal Gupta along with the NGO representatives conducted a raid on 'Geeta Enterprises' in J J Colony on last Sunday and rescued the children, police said today.

"During enquiry, one juvenile girl stated that placement agency owner Geeta Sahini had taken all her earnings and in spite of that the she had not sent her back to her native village. On her statement a case was registered at Crime Branch and the accused was arrested," Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime and Railways), S B S Tyagi, said.

Further investigations revealed that the accused was operating the placement agency in collaboration with Shyam Kumar Yadav, who is also running a placement agency namely 'Jeevan Jyoti Enterprises', Mr Tyagi said.

"Both of them used to exploit minor children whom they employed as domestic help by charging high placement fee and also did not pay the juveniles their dues," he said.

Yadav was arrested yesterday; Mr Tyagi said adding that all six children are presently in the custody of Child Welfare Committee.

"Interrogation of the accused persons has revealed that the children are exploited for cheap labour. The probability of children leaving employment is very low.

"Both the accused maximise their profits by employing children in their client's house. Shyam used to collect salary of juveniles from their employers and when children intended to go back then the accused, he kept postponing the same on some pretext," Mr Tyagi said.

The parents of these children have been informed, he said.
