New Delhi: Body of a six-year-old girl who had gone missing on Sunday was today found in the septic tank of her residence in south-east Delhi's Jaitpur area, police said.
Police said the girl fell into the tank accidentally as its lid was kept open for cleaning purposes.
"A police team reached the house and questioned its occupants as to why the septic tank had been kept open on Sunday night. When the tank was searched, the girl's body was found in it," said a senior police official.
The landlord of the house, identified as Laxman Singh (52) was arrested by the police after the victim's family registered a case of causing death due to negligence against him.
The deceased girl identified as Ritika had gone missing when she had gone to play out of her house.
The landlord had disappeared soon after the girl had gone missing and her family had suspected that he had harmed the girl as they had an argument with Singh, a couple of months ago over house rent issue, police said.
"It came to fore that he had realized that the girl has fallen into the open tank and that he would be arrested for this, so he had fled away to evade arrest. He has been nabbed," the official said.
The body has been sent for a post-mortem examination and further investigations are on, police said.
