New Delhi:
Two more people have been arrested in the Rs. 5.25-crore bank van robbery case in which a security guard was shot dead in the capital's Defence Colony area on September 28.
Ram Singh (30) and Ajay (32), residents of Delhi's Mandawali and Vinod Nagar, respectively, were arrested Friday and Rs.13.5 lakh were recovered from their possession.
They confessed to have received around Rs.25 lakh from Yogesh, the fifth main accused absconding in the case, a police official said.
So far, as many as 14 people have been arrested in connection with the case and Rs.4.09 crore have been recovered by the police.
"They (Ram Singh and Ajay) told us during interrogation that Yogesh contacted them the day after the robbery and handed over Rs.25 lakh to them for making investments on his behalf," said Deputy Commissioner of Police Chhaya Sharma.
The DCP added that Yogesh also gave Rs.25 lakh to his younger brother and his friend. Both have been arrested and the money has been recovered, according to police.
"Four main accused - Deepak, Hari Kishan, Vijay Nahar Singh, and Ranjit Rumal - along with eight other co-accused, have also been arrested in the case either for their involvement in the robbery or keeping and disposal of the robbed cash," Sharma said.
An ICICI Bank cash transfer van carrying Rs.5.25 crore was hijacked by robbers after shooting dead guard Munne Singh in south Delhi's Defence Colony on September 28.
Police have raided many hideouts of Yogesh in Delhi, Aligarh, Bulandshahr and Bareilly and questioned many of his friends and associates, but have failed to trace him so far.
Police investigation revealed that Yogesh went to Delhi's Ghonda area with his share after the robbery and disbursed the money among his relatives and friends before escaping, police said.
He left the capital with only a small amount of cash for daily use and took shelter in three small villages of Mainpuri district of Uttar Pradesh, before leaving for another unknown destination, said Sharma adding that the hunt is on to nab him.
