Speeding Car Runs Into 5 Delhi Policemen
Assistant Sub-Inspector Hemchand and Head Constable Narender were admitted to a private hospital with multiple fractures
New Delhi: Five traffic policemen in Delhi suffered serious injuries when a car rammed a barricade that they were manning at Civil Lines area near IP College at 2 am on Monday.

The traffic personnel - one Assistant sub inspector, one head constable and three constables - were rushed to Sushruta Trauma Centre and later referred to Max Hospital. Two of the five personnel suffered severe head injuries and multiple fractures and a dislocated shoulder injury. They are out of danger now but still under observation.

The incident happened when a person named Dinesh Sharma driving a Santro - accompanied by his wife and two children - was coming from the direction of the Ring Road. Such was the impact of the accident that the barricade broke; there were damages to the bonnet of the car too.

Police say at 2 AM the traffic lights function on a 'drive carefully' (Orange blinking lights) mode and Mr Sharma was driving rashly. He has been booked for rash and negligent driving and has been arrested.

Delhi Traffic Police have deployed more policemen on night duty to prevent reckless driving which lead to maximum accidents. Police Commissioner BS Bassi launched the traffic law enforcement drive on Saturday and said it was essential as drivers violate traffic rules with impunity during night, causing accidents.
