New Delhi: A 28-year-old Sanskrit lecturer was brutally killed, allegedly by his younger brother in north Delhi's Burari area after a heated argument, police said today.

Hitesh Verma was allegedly bludgeoned to death by his younger brother, Himanshu (23), on the intervening night of November 27 and 28 at their rented accommodation, said a senior police officer.

Hitesh used to work as a Sanskrit lecturer at PGDAV college while the accused is pursuing his post-graduation in the subject from Shivaji College, he said.

Police received a call about a body lying in a drain at around 3 AM. During the initial investigation, the police identified the deceased.

"When the deceased was identified, police team spoke to his brother who cooked up a story. He told the police that two men had barged into their house and murdered his brother," said the officer.

However, there were loopholes in the story. Police said there was just one entrance of the house on the ground floor, where the landlord lived. However, the landlord told police that nobody had entered the house.

The door of the room where the brothers lived was locked and there were no signs of a forced entry, he said.

When police questioned Himanshu about why he didn't do anything to save his brother or why he wasn't harmed by the two attackers, he broke down and confessed his crime, said the officer.

He also disclosed he had hidden the murder weapon under his bed, which was recovered by them. Himanshu then told the police that his brother was a control freak and always forced him to do things that he didn't want to.

"Himanshu said Hitesh used to get his friends home and often asked him to go out. Hitesh was in a relationship with a girl and when he would get his girlfriend home, he would ask Himanshu to step out. Of late, he would often ask his younger brother to go out," he said.

Yesterday, Hitesh asked Himanshu to go out as he was expecting his girlfriend to come over, but they allegedly got into a fight as Himanshu refused leave as it was cold outside. The younger brother lost his temper and killed Hitesh with a dumbbell, said the officer.

Himanshu and Hitesh's parents stay in Jhansi. The brothers used to visit their parents every two months. The parents have been informed and they will be reaching Delhi soon, following which the post-mortem will be conducted, the police said.
