New Delhi:
A 17-year-old school student was stabbed to death allegedly by a group of minor boys on a street in the Capital following an argument over the money he lent to one of them, police said on Sunday.
The incident took place in Sriniwaspuri at around 7 pm on Saturday when the victim Yash, a Class X student of Cambridge school in the same area, was going to his friend's place for 'combined study', a senior police official said.
The stabbing took place some 500 metres away from Yash's house. His father, Manmohan Gupta, owns an embroidery shop in Sadar Bazar. His mother Sangeeta is a house-wife, while his 12-year-old sister is studying.
"A friend had called Yash to his house for combined study. Initially, he was not keen to go but due to his friend's insistence he left for his residence. His parents were not at home when he left the house," he said.
While on way, the official said, Yash was waylaid by a group of eight to ten boys and they started beating him up. During the scuffle, he said, one of them allegedly stabbed him in the back and all of them fled the scene.
"Yash had lent some money to one of them and earlier there was an argument over it. Yash had asked him to return the money and reportedly used some harsh words," the official said.
After being stabbed, Yash called his friend on his cell phone and narrated the incident. "He told the friend that he was stabbed and was lying on the road bleeding. His friend informed Yash's parents who had then returned home," he said.
Yash's father then rushed him to AIIMS Trauma Centre where he succumbed to his injuries around 9:30 pm, the official said.
The boy, who had borrowed money from Yash, had two days ago visited Yash's house to invite them for a function at his house.
The Gupta family had moved to Sriniwaspuri three years ago.
Police have detained eight boys, all residents of Sangam Vihar, Srinivaspuri and Nehru Nagar in connection with the case.
