New Delhi:
A 26-year-old student today allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself from a ceiling fan of his room at a paying guest facility in south Delhi's Ber Sarai area.
Earlier, police said Dushyant Dikshit was a PhD scholar from JNU but later they issued a clarification claiming they were misinformed.
The JNU authorities also checked records and confirmed that the deceased was not enrolled there.
Mr Dikshit was a resident of Bareilly in Uttar Pradesh and was pursuing MSc from a prominent private university there. He left a suicide note in which he mentioned about some personal problems, including family issues and his relationship with a woman, police said.
"We received the call this morning and rushed a team. A suicide note was found in the room. We have initiated an inquest into the matter," DCP (South) Prem Nath said.
Mr Dikshit arrived in Delhi last year and rented a room on the fourth floor of the paying guest accommodation in Ber Sarai.
Further investigation is underway, a senior official added.
Clarifying that Mr Dikshit was not enrolled in JNU, the varsity issued a statement expressing deep condolences to his family members.
