New Delhi: The Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) has written to Delhi Home Minister Satyendra Jain to appoint senior public prosecutors in acid attack cases to help the victims get justice on time.

The Commission also said it would like to assist Delhi government in these cases and sought access to the case files for perusal of Commission's lawyers.

"As you are aware the DCW is working for the welfare and rehabilitation of acid attack victims. It has been brought to my attention that in case of several victims, the accused has not been arrested and cases are pending in courts for several years.

"In this regard the Commission along with six acid attack victims had met you on August 6. It was decided in the meeting that Delhi Commission for Women will provide the status of all these cases and senior public prosecutors will be appointed in these cases to expedite the proceedings. I request you to kindly appoint senior public prosecutors in these cases," DCW Chairperson Swati Maliwal said in her letter to Mr Jain.

At present, the Commission has compiled the status of 30 cases of acid attacks to facilitate timely justice to these victims.

"DCW is committed to the cause and we will work with the Delhi government to facilitate the process," she further added.

The DCW chief had recently also written to all ministers in Delhi government urging them to facilitate jobs for acid attack victims in their respective departments.
