Taking a strong note of the alleged negligence in providing timely medical treatment to a seven-year-old who was allegedly raped, the Delhi Commission for Women or DCW has served a notice to AIIMS and sought an 'action taken' report in two days.
The minor girl was allegedly sexually assaulted on Friday while she was playing outside her home by a teenager from the same neighbourhood in south Delhi's Tigri area, following which police had registered a case and apprehended the accused.
DCW Chairperson Swati Maliwal who met with the girl yesterday quoted the version of investigating police officer and the counsellor of DCW's Rape Crisis Cell, saying that she was not provided treatment for 3.5 hrs at AIIMS.
"The girl who was brought to the hospital in a very serious condition at 8.35 pm on December 11, was bleeding heavily. However, the girl was left unattended and even first aid was denied to her for more than 3.5 hours until around 12 pm," she said in the notice to the Director, AIIMS.
The investigation officer and RCC counsellor had also made a written complaint to the Delhi Chief Minister's Office regarding the same at 11.45 pm.
Ms Maliwal said that upon enquiry she was informed "verbally" by the duty officer that the hospital has sought a written explanation from the HoD (Gynaecologist) over the "negligence" complaint.
