New Delhi:
A teenage girl was raped in south-east Delhi allegedly by six youths, including a friend, police said yesterday.
All the six youths were arrested and the 16-year-old girl was rescued from Kotla where she was staying with another friend, a senior police official said.
The arrested youth have been identified as Rajesh (21), Anil (22), Siddarth alias Sudhir (20), Prateek alias Circuit (23), Pinku (22) and Tilak alias Raja Babu (23).
The girl stayed in the servants' quarters of a senior government official in Andrews Ganj along with her family.
Her father had approached police on April 25 after she did not return home and a case of abduction was registered then.
"She was known to Rajesh who asked her to meet him in Vivekananda Park near her house. When she met him, Rajesh took her to a house in Sangam Vihar where his friends also joined him. All of them allegedly raped her," the official said.
"After she was raped, the youths dropped her in front of her house. But out of fear, she went to one of her friend, Rahul's house in Kotla Mubarakpur. She was found there on Wednesday," the official said.
Based on her statement, all the six youths were arrested.
Around 80 rape cases have been reported this year in the capital which had witnessed a sharp increase in the crime alongwith cases of molestation last year since 2007.
In 2010, the city witnessed 489 rape incidents, including the infamous Dhaula Kuan rape and Mongolpuri, as against 2009's 459. The figure for 2006 was 609 followed by a drop to 581 next year while in 2008 it further dipped to 466.
Almost similar was the case with molestation cases in the capital in these years but it showed an increase this year to 585 from last year's 532. While 2008 had 597 cases, there were 835 incidents in 2007 and 713 in 609. In over 90 per cent of such cases, the accused were known to victims.
