Neeraj Kumar, Delhi's police commissioner on Sunday's gang-rape case:
- Arrested include Ram Singh, the bus driver. He was on a "joy ride" with friends.
- Rape took place in off-duty hours of a chartered bus.
- The victim of the rape also tried to fight to save her male friend as he was being attacked by the men on the bus.
- Four people have been arrested for shameful and appalling incident of rape that happened on Sunday night.
- Three were nabbed in 24 hours. This includes the bus driver Ram Singh.
- They were given tickets of Rs 10 each.
- A little later they started misbehaving.
- The male member protested, he was beaten up. He fought them bravely.
- The woman tried to save her male friend; she was taken to the end of the bus and raped.
- Later they were dumped from the bus.
- We got to know the bus had Yadav written.
- On the basis of that we began investigations.
- We got a list of 370 buses and painstakingly eliminated the buses.
- We finally got a lead from a transporter named Yadav.
- That led us to the bus in RK Puram Sector 3.
- Rear door was locked so victim and friend were pushed out from the front onto the road.
- Forensic tests indicated that we have the right bus.
- We arrested the driver who later confessed.
- The bus had been washed thoroughly.
- Ram Singh, his brother Mukesh, Vinay Sharma - a gym instructor, Pawan Gupta - a fruit seller, have been arrested.
- Two others have run away from the city. Teams have fanned out for them and we are confident we will nab them.
- We will requests courts to fast track this case and there should be a day-to-day trial.
- Ram Singh has been involved in some accident case earlier.
- Theoretically possible but practically not possible to check all buses and cars.
- If there is an indication, buses are checked.
- But there was no indication, this was a deluxe bus and had curtains.
- Boy was hit on head with iron rod, girl was punched badly in stomach.
- Victim is in a serious condition, praying for her recovery.
- I request the media to ask responsible questions. Please do not make light of it... it is a very serious issue.
