New Delhi: With the arrest of three persons, Delhi Police's Anti-Auto Theft Squad (AATS) of east district claimed to have busted a gang of interstate carjackers who were allegedly involved in the killing of UP police personnel as well. The three members of the gang - all brothers - arrested by the police, also wrote threatening letters to UP senior police officials.

Police said that the accused have been identified as Tony Ojha, Manoj Ojha and Sanjay Ojha, who were staying on rent in Mandawali and Geeta colony areas. "They were arrested from Pandav Nagar. Tony had allegedly shot and killed a constable earlier this month to manage escape of his brother and associate Manoj who was in custody," said a police official.

According to cops, the gang was involved in around nine cases in different parts of Delhi and NCR. "They chose easy targets and stole vehicles. Tony Ojha and his brother Manoj Ojha sold vehicles after preparing forged documents in Gorakhpur area of UP," said Prabhakar, Deputy Commissioner of police (east).

In 2008, the gang started operations when they forged bank drafts to purchase vehicles and sold them to innocent buyers. Over a period, they graduated to stealing motor vehicles. "Uniform of a sub-inspector of UP Police in the name of Rajveer, forged I-card of Tony Ojha as Rajveer, blue flash light, forged I-card of caretaker of ministry of urban development, I-card of a fake news channel, seal of RTO, forged driving licence and election I-card were recovered from the accused," Prabhakar added.

During interrogation, the accused revealed that they ran a gang of motor vehicle thieves in Delhi and NCR area and used to sell the stolen vehicles to Pintoo Singh and others in Gorakhpur. "Earlier on 22 June, Tony along with Pintoo shot dead a constable Ashok Kumar Gaur to manage escape of his brother Manoj who was an under trial prisoner brought to court in police custody," added the police official.

Police have recovered three .32, .315, .38 bore revolvers along with 15 cartridges, a car, a set of fake number plates and a complete set of uniform of UP police from their possession.
