New Delhi: A three-day-old girl has been found abandoned at a metro station in South Delhi. CCTV footage shows a man and a woman leaving the child there on Monday evening.
The girl was found by the staff at the Govindpuri Metro station and is now at an orphanage in North Delhi's Civil Lines where those taking care of her have named her Anushka. The doctors treating her said she had jaundice but is now much better.
The police have registered a case and are looking for the two people in the CCTV footage though it's still not clear if they are related to the abandoned infant. They have not been identified yet.
Data from India's national crime records bureau shows that there has been a growing trend in the number of children abandoned over the last few years, from 821 in 2012, to 930 the following year and going up to 983 in 2014.
If her real parents don't come forward, Anushka will be given for adoption.
