New Delhi:
Responding swiftly, Delhi Police personnel saved lives of three men trapped in a burning car in east Delhi. The youths met an accident near Yamuna Sports Complex while coming from Jama Masjid area in central Delhi early on Monday, police said.
All the three occupants of the car - Ashish Garg, owner of a software company; Sahil Kalra, a travel firm owner and Akshat Garg, who is employed with a private company - were safely rescued from the burning car by Head Constable Mohan Lal, and Constables Yogender Kumar and Prempal Singh, who were patrolling the area.
The three rescued men are in their late twenties or early thirties.
Mr Garg, who was driving the car, was all praise for the policemen. He told the police that the accident occurred as he swerved to avoid hitting a dog, but lost control of the vehicle which hit a tree on the roadside, overturned and caught fire.
"The timely action of the policemen saved our lives. It was around 3.40 am on Sunday when the accident took place. We were trapped inside the car, which had overturned and also caught fire and we were unable to get out. Soon we heard a PCR (police control room) van stopping near us," he said.
"the three policemen came and saved our lives. I think they should be rewarded and acknowledged for their job," Mr Garg added.
Constable Mohan Lal, who was posted at the police van, said, "I, along with Prem Pal Singh and driver Yoginder Kumar, were on patrolling duty and saw an overturned car on fire near Yamuna Sports complex."
"We discovered three men were trapped inside the car. We managed to get two of them out of the car through the window pane but one of them could not be removed. Then all three of us pushed back the car and managed to pull out the third man too," he said.
