New Delhi: About 250 motorcycles were gutted on Tuesday in a massive fire in a three-storeyed building, which later collapsed, in Adarsh Nagar area of northwest Delhi.
However, no casualty was reported in the incident.
The fire at the top floor of the building was reported around 4.10 PM following which 14 fire tenders were rushed to the spot," said a Delhi Fire Service officer.
The fire engulfed all the floors of the building including two motorcycle showrooms where 250 bikes were stored, he said.
The fire fighters could bring it under control after a three-hour long effort at around 7.15 PM, the official said.
The building collapsed as it was weakened by the fire, which was suspected to have been caused due to bursting of an AC compresser kept there, a senior police officer said, adding, however, the exact cause of fire will be known after probe.
No casualty was reported as the showrooms were closed and the building was almost deserted except for 2-3 persons who ran out as soon as they noticed the fire, he said.
Later, a cooling operation was launched by the Fire Service personnel.
