New Delhi: In a bid to prevent technical snags resulting in delays, Delhi Metro has replaced insulators on the over head electrification (OHE) in Blue Line, the busiest of all the existing corridors.
In the Delhi Metro network, OHE insulators are located at a gap of 40 metres and are supported by utility poles, so that electricity does not pass on to the supporting mast or pole.
A metro official said that faulty insulators had resulted in frequent snags disrupting rail operations in the recent past.
Delhi Metro Rail Corporation Managing Director Mangu Singh visited the Yamuna Bank Depot last night and took stock of the various measures undertaken by the OHE department in recent months to prevent any unwarranted failure on main lines.
At the deport he was also apprised about the latest practices being followed to ensure cleaning of trains with minimal water which can later be recycled.
After the Yamuna Bank Depot, he visited six stations on the Dwarka route, namely Pragati Maidan, Barakhamba Road, Rajiv Chowk, Patel Nagar, Rajouri Garden and Janakpuri East.
At the Rajiv Chowk station, he took stock of the "restructuring of Rajiv Chowk Metro station wherein passenger reorientation is planned through viewer's gallery during peak hours to avoid congestion in paid area."
During the inspection that lasted till the wee hours of the morning, Mr Singh was accompanied by Director (Operations) Sharat Sharma and other senior officials.
