A tourist guide has alleged that she was gang-raped at a five-star hotel near India Gate in Delhi, the police said on Sunday. The rape survivor has named six people, including a woman, after which the main accused was arrested, they added.
A man named Manoj Sharma, a resident of Delhi's Sheikh Sarai area, is one of those arrested.
The incident took place on Friday and the woman made the distress call the next day, police said.
The room in the central Delhi hotel where the crime took place had reportedly been booked by two businessmen.
The survivor, who works as a tourist guide and ticket-booking executive, told the police that she desperately needed money and the accused men had called her to the hotel on the pretext of granting her a loan at low rates.
"On the victim's complaint, a case was registered against 6 accused persons including one woman," Deputy Commissioner of Police, New Delhi, Eish Singhal told NDTV.
"The victim was lured to the hotel room on the pretext of providing loan at subsidized rates by the accused persons. The victim worked as tourist guide-cum-ticket booking agent and she was in dire need of money. The room was booked under the name of two business persons," he said.
Further investigation and searches for other accused are on.
