Revellers heading to Connaught Place will have to walk down to the commercial hub on New Year's eve as vehicular movement will be restricted after dusk.
Elaborate traffic arrangements for smooth flow and regulation of traffic throughout the city have been made for New Year eve, Satyendra Garg, Joint Commissioner of Police (Traffic), said today.
No vehicle shall be allowed to proceed towards Connaught Place from 7 PM onwards till the conclusion of New Year celebrations from Mandi House, North foot of Ranjit Singh Flyover, Minto Road-Deen Dayal Upadhaya Marg crossing, Chelmsford Road near New Delhi Railway. Station, RK Ashram Marg-Chitragupta Marg crossing, Gole Market, GPO, Patel Chowk, KGMarg-Ferozshah Road Crossing and Jai Singh Road-Bangla Sahib Lane.
Limited parking places will be available near Connaught Place on first come first served basis.
Motorists can park their vehicles at the following places in the vicinity of Connaught Place: near Gole Dak Khana on Kali Bari Marg, Pt. Pant Marg and Bhai Veer Singh Marg, near Patel Chowk on Rakab Ganj Road behind AIR, Mandi House, Minto Road, Windsor Place, Rajender Prasad Road and Raisina Road.
Bonafide residents of the area would be permitted to enter the area after due verification. They must carry papers to prove their identity and residence, Garg said.
Traffic Police personnel will be posted on all other main places where hotels, restaurants, markets and religious places are located to ensure that main roads are free for smooth flow of traffic.
A special drive will be carried out to check drunken driving.
"Traffic Police teams shall be stationed at many places to check drunken driving. For drunken driving, apart from fines upto Rs 2000 and suspension of driving licence, defaulters may be given a jail term," Garg said.
