New Delhi: A 32-year-old commerce graduate was arrested along with his wife for cheating people of about Rs 60 lakh on the pretext of providing them international tour packages and air tickets, police said on Tuesday.
Anu Chandra Paul, 32, and his wife Aparna Paul, 31, were arrested from Silchar in Assam on Sunday, police said.
"Following a complaint registered on June 18, the accused were arrested for cheating of Rs 60 lakh by falsely promising them to provide tour package and air tickets," said Devesh Chandra Srivastva, additional commissioner of police.
The couple would charge Rs.1-3 lakh from each customer for providing air tickets and tour packages.
"Paul disclosed that he used to work in a private company in Delhi at a very low salary. In February 2010, he along with his wife and cousin Amrit Paul started a tour and travel company in central Delhi's Karol Bagh," said the official.
"Initially, he gave the payments to the travel agents on time to win their trust and provide good facilities to customers. Later, he hatched a conspiracy and fled from the city after collecting huge amounts of money from customers," said the official.
