Twelve-year-old girl raped by teen neighbour in Delhi

New Delhi: A 12-year-old girl was raped allegedly by her teenaged neighbour in west Delhi this morning after dragging her to his house while she was going to a nearby shop, police said.

The incident took place in Kamruddin Mohalla locality of Nihal Vihar area yesterday morning when the victim was going to a nearby grocery shop.

The boy, aged 17 years, is on the run, a senior police official said.

"She was going to a grocery shop to buy something when the boy stopped her and tried to lure her. She objected to this after which he forcibly took her to his house. He then raped her," the official said.

According to the victim, the official said, he threatened to kill her if she told anyone about the incident.

Initially, she did not tell anyone about the incident, but when her father returned home she narrated the entire story.

The father, in turn, approached the police, who took her to a hospital where a medical examination confirmed rape.

A case has been registered and efforts are on to trace the boy who works as a labourer.

The official said locals have claimed that the boy had been harassing the girl for the past couple of days and that the girl's father as well as the neighbours had reprimanded him.
