Students of the Bhagalpur university raised slogans against former Delhi Law Minister Jitender Singh Tomar.
New Delhi:
A group of students threw eggs at former Delhi Law Minister Jitender Singh Tomar of the Aam Aadmi Party as he was brought by the Delhi Police to the Tilka Manjhi Bhagalpur University in Bihar's Bhagalpur on Friday.
The students also raised slogans, not only against Mr Tomar, but also Union Human Resource Development Minister Smriti Irani of the BJP.
The protesting students said they were angry with Mr Tomar for bringing disrepute to the university; the AAP leader is being investigated for allegations that he forged his law degree from this Bihar university.
While Mr Tomar's party considers action against him, it has vowed to go after ministers in the BJP-led central government who have been in controversies over their educational qualifications, like Smriti Irani and Ram Shankar Katheria, a junior minister in Ms Irani's Human Resource Development Ministry.
"We are asking the police to look into cases against the two. There cannot be two justice systems - one for us and the other for them," said senior AAP leader Sanjay Singh, adding that the party would launch a nationwide attack on the two ministers and is collecting legal evidence against them.
Ms Irani was last year attacked by political rivals for discrepancies in details of her educational qualifications in her election affidavits filed 10 years apart.
Mr Katheria has been accused of forging marksheets to allegedly secure a teaching position at Agra University. The case is being heard in court.
Mr Singh denied speculation that the party was considering expelling Mr Tomar and said that an internal lokpal would look into the allegations against the former Law Minister.
Mr Tomar resigned on Tuesday after being arrested and sent to police custody. The Delhi Police alleges that Mr Tomar faked his graduation and law degrees and also a migration certificate. They have filed a case of cheating and forgery against him.
The police had earlier taken him to Faizabad in Uttar Pradesh from where Mr Tomar claims to have got his graduation degree in Science and to Munger in Bihar where he says he attended law college.
