New Delhi:
It was high drama at the new terminal 3 of the IGI airport in New Delhi on Thursday as a 37-year-old US national climbed on the wall of the departure ramp and threatened to commit suicide.
Redmon Tyrone was disturbed over some personal issues but after about three hours of persuasion, he came down, a senior police official said. He has been taken into custody.
Tyrone, along with an NRI friend Nilesh Patel, had come to Delhi with multiple entry visa on February 2. He and Patel went to Baroda and after staying there for about a week, they
returned to the national capital on February 8. Patel dropped him and went back to Baroda the same day.
Tyrone had to board a Virgin Atlantic flight to US via London which was scheduled to depart at 1.30 pm on Wednesday but since he reported at around 12.30 pm at the airline counter,
he was denied boarding, the official said.
During this, when airline personnel asked him about his baggage, then he claimed that Patel has taken all his baggage along with him.
"Since no person can come out of the airport without valid reason after entering, he spent the whole night at the departure lounge but this morning as soon as he got the opportunity, he rushed out of the departure gate no 8 and attempted to jump from the ramp," IGI DCP R A Sanjeev said.
He was persuaded and taken to the police station."Investigation is going on. We have called Patel and asked him about this. We have found differences in their versions. We have asked Nilesh to come Delhi," he said, adding a case of attempt to suicide under section 309 of IPC has been registered against Tyrone.
According to sources, it is a case of love triangle and both men are said to be in love with the same girl.
