New Delhi:
A 27-year-old vegetable seller was arrested in New Delhi for allegedly making calls to police, threatening to blow up a bus depot, police said on Wednesday.
Satish Kumar was apprehended from Baljeet Nagar on Tuesday soon after he made the calls to police, Devesh Srivastava, Additional Commissioner of Police (Central), said.
"Police Control Room received calls that a bomb would explode in Shadipur depot near Baljeet Nagar market yesterday.
In view of Republic Day celebrations, senior police officers and Bomb Disposal Squad rushed to the spot. A search was made to trace the bomb, but nothing was found," he said.
Efforts were made to identify the caller and after exhaustive enquiries, the caller was identified as Kumar.
"Due to the encroachment removal drive by police, his stall was removed from the spot. On this, he contacted Madan Lal, the market head who offered him wine and said that he will also provide him space for his business if he made the hoax call.
"Madan Lal had hatched a plan to create panic in the market and to pressurise the local police. Efforts are being made to arrest Madan Lal. The mobile phone used in making the hoax call has also been recovered," Srivastava said.
Kumar was also working as a sweeper in a dispensary in Prem Nagar.
