Arvind Kejriwal tweeted 'I'm surprised' after Najeeb Jung resigned as Delhi Lieutenant Governor
New Delhi:
Delhi Lieutenant Governor
Najeeb Jung, whose tenure will best be remembered for the constant power tussles with Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal,
has resigned after two years in office. Najeeb Jung's office, in a press release this evening, said the Lieutenant Governor has submitted his resignation to the central government. The move by Najeeb Jung has surprised many, including Aam Aadmi Party Chief
Arvind Kejriwal. The Delhi
Chief Minister tweeted, "Sh Jung's resignation is a surprise to me. My best wishes in all his future endeavours. (sic)"
Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia added that despite the bitter turf war between the Lieutenant Governor and the AAP government, they did good work together. "Despite the bitter-sweet experiences (with the Lt Governor), I can say that we did very good work for Delhi along with Mr Jung... All the best for the future," Manish Sisodia tweeted.
However, AAP leader Kumas Vishwas, calling Najeeb Jung's tenure "disgraceful", alleged that the Lieutenant Governor worked under the influence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's government.
"Modi government promotes its people. We hope he gets a better posting after this. I am unhappy that his tenure was disgraceful. Now that he has gone, good luck to him... Najeeb Jung's behaviour was not his. He was under the influence of someone. We hope the next LG gives priority to issues concerning people and does not work under anyone's influence," Kumar Vishwas said.
Ever since Najeeb Jung assumed office two years ago, the Lieutenant Governor and the AAP government have been at loggerheads on a range of issues, including transfer and posting of officers.
