Nihal Vihar murders: A woman and her two children were found dead in their rented flat (Representational)
A woman and her two young children were found hammered to death in their rented flat in outer Delhi's Nihal Vihar, police said today, adding that the victim's husband is missing. Police say he is the main suspect in the brutal murders.
The bodies of 29-year-old Preeti and her children, aged 9 and 5, have been sent for an autopsy.
Preeti had multiple stab wounds in her abdomen; her 9-year-old son was found with his hands and legs tied, police said. The third victim is Preeti's 5-year-old daughter.
The family had come to live in the Shiv Park flat a month ago, police said.
Preeti's parents, who live nearby, claimed that her husband, Gagan, was an alcoholic who would often fight with her. They too have blamed him for the violent murders.
The bodies were discovered in a pool of blood on the bed by Preeti's father who went to their flat after his calls went unanswered.
Police have recovered the hammer, possibly used for the crime, from the house.
A murder case has been registered and the search is on for Gagan, a labourer.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Outer Delhi) A Koan said further investigation is underway.
