New Delhi:
A 26-year-old woman gangster, who had briefly worked for a local news channel, and her female accomplice have been arrested for alleged involvement in a series of dacoities in South West Delhi.
Police today said the woman, Dimple, had studied up to Class X and worked in a local news channel where she did sting operations related to sex rackets before forming a six-member gang that committed several robberies and dacoities including targeting American tourists in Panipat in June this year.
The Special Staff of South West police was following the activities of the gang and arrested two of its members Rohit and Sohail on July 20.
Information received from them led to the arrest of Dimple and another woman member of the gang Palak, said RA Sanjeev, DCP of South West district police.
Dimple had passed Class X from an open school in Agra. She had been in a live-in relationship with Uttam Nagar resident Rohit since 2011.
"The duo together worked in a local news channel which was basically doing sting operation on sex trade rackets," DCP Sanjeev said.
In 2014, both of them were caught by Govind Puri Police in a robbery case in which she was sent to jail for 12 days, the DCP said.
After this, she formed a gang and was involved in several cases of carjacking, robbery and dacoity. Four robbed cars, jewelry, 14 mobile phones and two laptops were recovered from the arrested accused.
Dimple and Palak would wear 'burqa'to hide their identity while committing crimes.
"Code words were used by the gang and Dimple was called 'Aslam Bhai' by the members. Raj Kumar who bought valuables stolen by them was also caught by the police.
"'Bade Bhai ko le aana' (bring the big brother) meant carry firearms while 'Pair mein dard hai' (pain in the leg) meant one member caught," the DCP said.
During interrogation, Dimple said that she wanted to live a lavish life and used to go to discos and bars daily where she would spend a lot of money. After committing robberies, they would go to hill stations to spend the money, he added.
