Woman, AIIMS official killed in Delhi car crash

New Delhi: Two people, including a woman, were killed in a car crash on August Kranti Marg in south Delhi at around 1 am on Monday.

The woman, Sonia Sethia, was heading towards Defence Colony from her Gulmohar Marg residence when her Honda City crashed into another car. Her driver, Rajesh, and another man in the car, Keshav Sharma, have been admitted to the hospital with severe injuries.

The other car in the accident, a Maruti Swift Dzire, was being driven by a 50-year-old Senior Technical Advisor in AIIMS, Mohan Kumar, who died on the spot. His 12-year-old son, Anjum, was also in the car with him and is severely injured. (See pics)

According to the police, as the Honda City neared Siri Fort on the August Kranti marg, the Swift Dzire crashed into them from behind.

"Last night around between 1 and 1:15 am we got to know about the accident. We reached the spot and found a Swift Dzire had rammed into a Honda City. It is difficult to tell which is the offending vehicle right now," said Delhi's Deputy Commissioner of Police, Chhaya Sharma.

"The impact of the Dzire was so strong that Ms Sonia died on impact," she added.

The police say that the magnitude of the accident indicates gross negligence of traffic rules.
