New Delhi: A young woman was hacked to death in a park in south Delhi allegedly by her 28- year-old lover who then attempted to commit suicide, police said today.
Mohammad Salim, resident of Ambedkar Nagar, came to Ambedkar Nagar police station at 10 pm yesterday and confessed that he had killed his girlfriend Nikita inside the Rose Garden near IIT, a senior police official said.
Before coming to the police station, the official said, he allegedly consumed pesticides to kill himself. Salim was rushed to AIIMS while a police team discovered the body of the 35-year-old woman in the Rose Garden.
They met in the Rose Garden last evening and an argument ensued among them.
Later in a fit of rage, Salim allegedly strangled her and then slit her throat.
The youth had returned from Dubai about a year ago and was having an affair with Nikita.
Nikita, a mother of two, was separated from her husband Ravi.
"Salim was having an affair with her. Of late, he felt that she was financially exploiting him. He wanted to get out of the relationship and this led to the murder," the official said.
Salim is yet to record his statement as he is unfit.
