Woman Held at Indira Gandhi International Airport With Gold Worth Rs 25 Lakh

A woman was arrested at the Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGI) while allegedly trying to smuggle gold valued at about Rs 25 lakh.

New Delhi: A woman was arrested at the Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGI) while allegedly trying to smuggle gold valued at about Rs 25 lakh, police said today.

The accused, who hails from Amritsar, was intercepted on Saturday by customs officials after her arrival from Dubai.

She was wearing gold ornaments on both her wrists and had covered them under the full sleeves of her suit. She attempted to clear the gold jewellery weighing one kilogramme clandestinely out of the airport without declaring it, the customs department said in a release today.

The value of the gold, which was seized by the customs, was assessed to be Rs 24.95 lakh, the release said.
