New Delhi: A woman, who had alleged she was disrobed and her hair chopped off by robbers who fled with cash and valuables worth Rs 10 lakh from her Lahori Gate house, has been arrested for concocting the story, police said on Monday.
The 26-year-old woman had strained relations with her husband and in-laws and she allegedly staged the robbery drama to escape with the money with one of her lovers, police said.
The woman had alleged on September 1 that while her family members were away, three unidentified robbers entered the house, disrobed and gagged her and fled with jewellery and cash worth Rs 10 lakh, a senior police officer said.
The police suspecting that the woman was lying, scanned her call detail records in which it emerged that she was having affairs with a few men.
"The woman was having affairs as she felt that she was in a loveless marriage. She planned the entire drama and hid the stolen items in a toilet sink and her cellphone in a water tank. She even tore her clothes so that her family, for fear of social stigma, wouldn't report the matter to police," a senior police officer said.
The woman had plans to elope with one of her lovers but before she could do that, she was arrested, the officer said.
The police is yet to identify her lover and are questioning the men with whom she was in touch, police said.
Relevant sections will be added to the FIR that was registered earlier, the officer said.
