New Delhi:
A woman and her four-month-old daughter drowned after the car they were travelling in allegedly fell into Munak canal in Narela area of outer Delhi, police said on Wednesday.
The wowan's husband, however, jumped out of the car moments before it plunged into the canal. He told police that he could not save his wife and daughter as there was "no time".
The bodies of the deceased, identified as Hemlata (22) and her daughter Preeti, were fished out of the canal in a two- hour-long operation undertaken by NDRF, fire services and Delhi Police personnel.
The woman apparently could not come out of the car as she could not unfastened the seat belt but a possible murder angle is also being looked into as her family members have accused her husband of murdering her, police said.
Both the bodies were found tied to the seat with the seat belt, a police official said.
"Hemlata had told her parents that her husband, Anil, was having an extra marital affair," the official said.
The claims made by Anil are being verified. The exact cause of the deaths will be known after we receive the post- moterm report, he added.
