New Delhi:
A 27-year-old woman in the national capital was pushed to her death by her husband and in-laws from the roof of the building in which they live. The trio have been arrested, police said on Saturday.
Farzana, the mother of a three-month-old baby, was pushed from her in-laws' house at Lahori Gate, situated in Delhi's walled city area, around 9.30 p.m. on Friday.
"The victim's husband Javed (28) and her in-laws - Khursid (55) and Hamida (50) - were arrested Saturday on the basis of a complaint lodged by the victim's sister, Tahira," a police officer said.
"Farzana's in-laws had been pressurising her for some time to demand money from her father so that they could buy a flat," said the officer on the basis of Tahira's complaint.
Farzana's in-laws claim that her death was a suicidal act while her family members allege that she was pushed to her death by her in-laws, who had been torturing her for dowry for some time.
"Farzana married Javed one-and-a-half years ago. After a few months of her marriage, her in-laws began to demand dowry," said the official.
An SDM enquiry has been initiated into the matter, a senior police officer said.
According to recent data issued by the Delhi Police, a dowry death is reported from the capital every third day.
