New Delhi: Women passengers of Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) buses were pleasantly surprised today when they were told that they did not require to buy tickets on the occasion of 'Bhai Duj'.
Mayur Vihar resident Shashi Tyagi, who boarded a DTC bus to reach her brother's house in Lajpat Nagar, was elated when she got to know women were being given free rides today.
"I took out money from my purse to buy a ticket when the conductor told me that I did not need require to as DTC was providing free rides to women in its buses on the occasion of
Bhai Duj," said a smiling Shashi.
Hundreds of women passengers availed free rides on DTC buses today.
"Delhi Transport Corporation is providing free rides to women passengers in all its non-AC buses plying in Delhi and NCR on Bhai Duj today," DTC spokesperson RS Minhas said.
The women passengers can avail free rides on DTC's non AC buses between 8 am to 5 pm, he added.
However, free-ride service for women passengers will not be available on AC and inter-state buses destined to the towns beyond NCR.
According to DTC, it has put maximum number of buses possible on road today to cater to the extra rush of passengers on Bhai Duj.
