New Delhi: Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) on transferred a complaint of alleged domestic abuse against Aam Aadmi Party lawmaker Manoj Kumar to Delhi Police for further action.
Mr Kumar's wife had earlier this month lodged a complaint of domestic violence against him before the women rights panel, following which a summon was issued to him by the commission chief, Swati Maliwal.
"DCW had received a case wherein the wife of MLA Manoj Kumar had accused him of domestic violence and mental cruelty. The commission had summoned both parties on three dates -- July 18, 23 and 30," an official statement said.
"After counselling the parties and understanding the issue in detail, DCW found it fit to transfer the case to the Delhi Police for further action. Therefore, the case has been forwarded to the force for necessary action as per law," it added.
Mr Kumar, lawmaker from Kondli, also faces charges of cheating and land grabbing for which he was arrested in July, 2015. He was later released on bail.
He is the second AAP lawmaker to be accused of domestic violence. Previously, Malviya Nagar lawmaker Somnath Bharti's wife had levelled similar allegations against him.
