Youth Found Hanging From a Tree in Outer Delhi Locality

The body of a 22-year-old man was found hanging from a tree at a residential colony in outer Delhi's Shahbad Dairy area this morning.

New Delhi: The body of a 22-year-old man was found hanging from a tree at a residential colony in outer Delhi's Shahbad Dairy area in the wee hours today, following which locals stage protest alleging murder.

The deceased, identified as Sudhir, was an interior decorator, who lived with his parents in the locality. The police have found no suicide note from his possession, said Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Vikramjit Singh.

According to the police, it is prima facie a case of suicide. The body has been sent for a postmortem examination and the report is awaited. Meanwhile, an inquest has been initiated into the matter, said Mr Singh.

The incident was reported around 3 AM, when some locals noticed the body and called up the police control room. The rope was cut and Mr Sudhir's body was brought down, after which he was rushed to a hospital, where he was declared dead, said police.

The incident triggered a violent protest in the area within a few hours and scores of protesters allegedly damaged a Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) low-floor AC bus. The protest also disrupted flow of traffic in the area, said police.

Soon, a police team had to be deployed there and things came under control only after senior officials intervened.

The police are likely to register a case of rioting and damaging public property under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and arrest "miscreants" who resorted to violence, taking advantage of the circumstances, said a senior official.

Relatives of Mr Sudhir have alleged that he was murdered, but the police have come across no such leads yet. "Further legal action will follow after we obtain the initial postmortem report, which shall tell about the time and cause of death," Mr Singh said.

Mr Sudhir was unmarried and had pursued diploma in interior decoration after graduating senior secondary school. The police shall also check his call details to obtain crucial leads into the matter, police added.
